  • Renowned filmmaker Zhang Yimou (JU DOU, RAISE THE RED LANTERN, TO LIVE, HERO) returns with HOUSE OF FLYING DAGGERS, an exquisitely realized masterpiece that is both breathtaking martial arts epic and sweeping romance. The film is China's official OscarĀ® selection for Best Foreign Language Film.

It is 859 AD and the once flourishing Tang Dynasty is in decline. Rebel armies are battling in protest against the corrupt government. None of these armies is more feared than the House of Flying Daggers, growing ever more powerful under a mysterious new leader. When Captains Leo and Jin (wonderfully played by superstar powerhouses Andy Lau and Takeshi Kaneshiro) are ordered to capture the new leader, they hatch an elaborate plan. Captain Jin will pose as Wind, a lone warrior. He will rescue beautiful, blind revolutionary Mei (Ziyi Zhang), then use her to infiltrate the secret headquarters of the House of Flying Daggers. But, to their surprise, Jin and Mei fall in love on their long journey to the House, even as plots hatch in their minds and secrets lurk in their hearts.

HOUSE OF FLYING DAGGERS features some of the most intricately detailed, flawlessly executed martial arts and swordplay sequences ever filmed. Startlingly saturated colors enhance the opulent period costumes and tightly choreographed, digitally perfected set pieces. These sumptuous visuals provide the perfect accompaniment to the dramatic sweep and breathless romance of the story by Zhang and screenwriters Li Feng and Wang Bin, creating a magical world of unimaginable beauty.
