  • In THE FAVOURITE, director Yorgos Lanthimos showcases his uniquely dark humor with a story of royal intrigue, jealousy and betrayal. Queen Anne (Olivia Colman) sits on the English throne in the early 18th century while her close friend, Lady Sarah (Rachel Weisz), governs the war with the French and tends to Her Majesty's every capricious mood. One day, Abigail (Emma Stone), a new and young servant, arrives and charms her way into the lives and politics of Queen Anne and Lady Sarah. As Abigail's friendship with Queen Anne flourishes, she discovers secrets that will aid her ambitions and provoke rivalries in the Queen's court. With a deliciously witty, ribald script and sumptuous period visuals, THE FAVOURITE is a wild and irreverent epic of determined women, broken hearts and loads of rabbits. – Sarah Harris
